Fennel is a tender perennial best grown as an annual since it does not handle frost well. It does not handle transplanting well either so direct seed where you want the plant to grow. Used on fish, fennel is found in a variety of Italian dishes, as well. Also called sweet cumin or large cumin fennel bulbs and the leaf are used in cooking
